MASTERING THE SHORT FORM
Professional Training for Playwrights
Designed for playwrights at every stage, this class focuses on mastering the short form through the craft of writing 10-minute plays. Short-form playwriting is a vital skill for both emerging and established writers, requiring clarity, precision, and bold creative choices. This foundational workshop explores the playwriting process as it applies to concise storytelling, including dramatic structure, purposeful dialogue, clear dramatic action, and efficient character development within a limited timeframe. Students are encouraged to write fearlessly while learning how to make strong narrative and emotional impact in ten minutes or less. The goal of the workshop is for students to gain a practical, repeatable understanding of the short-form playwriting process and leave with the tools to create compelling 10-minute plays.
