On January 29, 2026, We lost our founder, Woodie King, Jr., our guiding star, and a giant of American Theatre. As we mourn, we are also lifted by the countless stories celebrating the stage he build- a stage that launched legends and forever changed the cultural landscape. .
For 56 years, New Federal Theatre has been the vital, unwavering, the 'seat of African American Culture' that he envisioned. It has been a refuge for artists, a platform for truth, and a mirror for our community. From young Denzel Washington to the groundbreaking Ntozake Shange, his stage was threir launchpad.
How do we honor such a monumental legacy?
We believe the answer is not just in reflection, but in action. The greatest tribute to Woodie is tonsure the institution he built endures, thrives, and continues its essential worker the next 56 years. To do that we must secure its foundation. Our goal is to enlist 560 dedicated monthly sustainer.
