BLACK CREATION PLAYWRIGHTS RESIDENCY

The Black Creation Playwrights Residency is a bold initiative by New Federal Theatre that running annually through FY26 invests in the voices shaping the future of Black theatre. This residency offers emerging and mid-career Black playwrights the time, space, and support to develop original works that reflect the depth, complexity, and brilliance of the Black experience.

 

Through dedicated writing time, dramaturgical support, peer collaboration, and public readings, residents are given the platform to hone their craft and bring fresh, urgent narratives to life. Rooted in a legacy of cultural innovation and artistic excellence, the residency nurtures Black creators who are reimagining what’s possible on stage—and beyond.
